Important Commissioning Information for Clinicians and Patients from 2025 Onwards.

LHM Healthcare is pleased to confirm that we are being funded by NHS England to continue to provide a Hyperbaric emergency service for the East of England region from our Unit at the James Paget University Hospital in Great Yarmouth.

The emergency service at Whipps Cross Hospital will no longer accept NHS emergency referrals but will continue to provide routine elective treatments on a privately funded basis for recognised indications.

In July 2018 NHS England published several new Commissioning Policies for HBOT and has confirmed routine funding for the following two emergency conditions:

In 2018, NHS England decided to withdraw routine funding for all other emergency and elective indications. NHSE does not fund research into HBOT but supports the collection of strong clinical evidence via the REDCAP data collection registry.

This will be achieved by providing treatments on an evaluative research basis and collecting clinical data using registries. These treatments will however no longer be funded by NHS England.

LHM Healthcare will continue to accept and treat NHS patients on an evaluative/ research basis for those conditions, which NHSE has previously funded and which align most closely with the principles of evidence-based medicine.

  • Late radiation tissue injury – Treatment and prophylaxis of osteoradionecrosis)
  • Late radiation tissue injury – Treatment and prophylaxis of radionecrosis of soft tissue.
  • Selected Problem Wounds (eg. compromised grafts and flaps, diabetic foot ulcers, Hypoxic wounds etc.)

Treatment for these and other selected elective conditions will usually be provided at no cost to the patient by LHM Healthcare for NHS patients who are referred to us by NHS clinicians using established care pathways, and at the discretion of our team. Patients will be asked to enrol in our NHS-approved evaluative treatment program and make a voluntary donation to our research fund.
